The University of Messina is a public institution endowed with autonomy, which inherits the cultural tradition of the ancient Studium messanense generale and renews it in scientific research and teaching. The Department of Chemical, Biological Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences (ChiBioFarAm) includes the PhD courses in Chemical Sciences, Applied Biology and Experimental Medicine. ChiBioFarAm Dept. coordinates the research activities of several laboratories in the chemical, biological pharmaceutical and environmental areas.

The Institute of Science, Technology and Sustainability for Ceramics  (ISSMC) of the CNR is the Italian Pole of Excellence on Ceramic Materials, where the conception, design and development of new ceramic and hybrid materials takes place. The Cell/Material BioLAB of the ISSMC-CNR is focused on the study of cell/biomaterial interactions. Accuracy is the main pillar of the Lab, which is extremely important to reach the goal of the translational research to the preclinical study and to the medical use.
